How to Cover a Laminate Floor

While laminate floors are not as susceptible to damage as hardwood floors, they still require protection against scratching from shoes or furniture shifting. According to the World Floor Covering Association, carpet runners as well as rubber pads are essential accessories that protect your floors from abrasive surfaces that can damage the finish. You often find them in the housewares section of your local convenience store and big box retail stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a wipe mat in front of all entrances to prevent moisture and dirt from shoes from coming into the home.

    • 2

Place a floor runner in high-traffic areas, as these areas are prone to minor and deep scratches.

    • 3

Gently lift the legs of your heavy furniture up and place a rubber pad underneath them

    • 4

Place an area rug underneath couches and other large pieces of furniture to prevent the weight of the furniture from gradually wearing down the surface. Protect the floor from the rug's dye by placing a rug pad underneath the rug.

    • 5

Lift and carry furniture rather than drag it across the floor when moving to prevent scratches.
