Remove the cushions from the upholstered furniture and place them aside until needed.
Secure the upholstery brush to your vacuum and turn the vacuum on. Run the brush over the upholstery to remove surface dust, dirt and hair. Run the brush over the cushions you removed from the furniture. You must perform this step to remove the excess dust that is common in Phoenix.
Mix 1 cup water with 1/4 cup dish soap in a bucket. Mix with a whisk to work up foam. Use a sponge to scoop up the foam and begin scrubbing the upholstered furniture and cushions. Begin at the top of the upholstery and scrub while moving downward. Scrape the excess foam off the upholstery with a plastic spatula.
Dampen a cloth with cool water and pat the upholstery to rinse the mixture off the fabric. Blot excess liquid with a towel and let the upholstery air-dry. Open windows -- on a warm day -- in the area the upholstery is located to aid in the drying process. Return the cushions once they and the upholstered furniture are dry.
