Shake the couch's cushions outdoors. This helps free any loose dirt, crumbs or debris.
Brush the surface of your poly microfiber sofa with a soft-bristled hair brush or pet brush to remove loose hairs and fibers.
Vacuum the entire surface of the sofa. Use a soft brush nozzle attachment if available.
Repeat this process regularly as part of your normal house-cleaning routine.
Gently scrape dried-on stains with a knife. Brush them afterward with a hair brush. Skip this step for fresh stains.
Check your sofa's tag. Look for "W," "S," "S/W" or "X" codes on the care instructions. If you sofa has an "X" code letter, vacuum the spot. Do not apply any liquid-based cleaners to microfiber sofas with "X" codes. For "W," "S," and "S/W" sofas, move on to the next step.
Dampen a white, lint-free cloth with water and a gentle dish detergent, upholstery shampoo or carpet cleaner for sofas with "W" or"S/W" tags. Apply a non-water based solvent -- such as rubbing alcohol, gin, vodka, ammonia or bleach-free oxygenated solutions -- to the rag for sofas labeled "S" or "S/W."
Blot the spot or stain with the damp cloth.
Dry the spot by blotting it with a clean, dry cloth.
Repeat the blotting and drying process if the stain remains.
