How to Revive a Foam Mattress Pad

A foam mattress pad adds an extra layer of comfort to a bed. Instead of purchasing a new mattress, some people purchase a foam mattress pad to place directly on top of a regular mattress. Many mattress pads come vacuum packed, which is easier for manufacturers to ship and for customers to handle in the store. Before using the mattress pad, you will need to let the foam decompress and revive to its intended shape.

Instructions

    • 1

Unpack the foam mattress pad from the manufacturer's packaging.

    • 2

Place the mattress pad on the ground and allow it to decompress and come to room temperature. This normally takes about one to two hours, but might take longer in especially cold rooms.

    • 3

Set the pad on top of your normal mattress with the "tacky" side down. Place the fitted sheet on top of the foam pad, and make the bed as normal.

    • 4

Spot clean any soiled areas by hand with a mild detergent, warm water and a towel. Rinse the affected area and gently wring the foam to get rid of any excess water. Air dry the foam pad for several hours prior to use. Never use bleach or dry the pad in a dryer.
