Instructions

Keep your leather couch clean. Dust off the leather with a soft, dry cloth at least once a week. Wipe down the couch with a soft, damp cloth if it needs a bit more cleaning power. For deeper cleaning -- usually just a few times a year -- clean the leather couch with leather cleaner. Follow the instructions on the leather cleaner since this will vary among products.

Treat your leather couch with a leather conditioner twice a year. This will keep the fabric supple and help to prevent stains. Follow the instructions on the bottle for using the leather conditioner as this will vary among products.

    • 3

Situate your leather couch in a spot that is away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Excessive heat and sunlight can cause the leather to fade. If the couch is situated near a window, put up window treatments to protect the couch from the sunlight. Sit the couch at least 2 feet away from direct heat sources.

Blot up spills or liquid from your leather couch right away. Use a soft cloth to dab at the spot without rubbing. If the spot is oily, sprinkle cornstarch on it and leave it there for a few hours to absorb the oil before brushing off the powder.
