How to SteamVac Furniture

The main purpose of a SteamVac is to clean your carpet, but with the right model and attachments, it can clean your upholstery furniture as well. A SteamVac uses heat, pressure and water to force out deep-rooted stains and spots, making your upholstery look like new. Before using a SteamVac on your furniture, ensure that the machine won't damage the upholstery. Only certain types of upholstery can handle a wet cleaning.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the tag on your upholstery furniture for a cleaning code. If the code is "W" or "S/W," you may proceed. If the code is "S," the SteamVac will damage your upholstery; use a dry solvent specified by the furniture manufacturer to clean that particular piece of furniture.

    • 2

Vacuum the furniture with a regular vacuum and upholstery nozzle. Get into all of the crevices and folds in the furniture.

    • 3

Press down on the tank handle on the front of your SteamVac to release and remove the clean-solution tank. Rotate the cap on the top of the tank counterclockwise to remove it.

    • 4

Turn the cap over and fill it to the lower line with 3 oz. carpet/upholstery detergent. Pour the detergent into the tank. If the furniture has any large spots or stains, repeat this process to double the amount of detergent. Add 1 gallon hot water to the clean-solution tank.

    • 5

Dip a white cloth into the detergent solution, then find a discreet spot on the side or back of your upholstery furniture. Rub the damp cloth against the surface, ensuring that you cover all colors of the upholstery. Wait 10 minutes, then rub the white cloth against the area again to see if any color transfers to the cloth. If it does, do not use the SteamVac on this piece of furniture, as the cleaning solution will bleach the color. If color does not transfer, continue.

    • 6

Lower the handle on the SteamVac to the floor using the pedal on the left side of the cleaner. Pull up on the back of the recovery-tank lid, which is now accessible with the handle out of the way, to remove it.

    • 7

Pull up on the recovery-tank front panel to remove it. Replace with the SteamVac's attachment-hose panel. There is a thin tube coming off of this panel. Lift up the small cover located on the SteamVac just in front of the recovery tank and plug this tube into the connector there. Finally, push the upholstery nozzle over the other end of the hose and replace the recovery-tank lid.

    • 8

Move the handle back to an upright position and replace the clean-solution tank. Plug the SteamVac in and turn it on with the foot pedal.

    • 9

Press the nozzle against the furniture upholstery and squeeze the solution trigger. Slowly pull the nozzle over the face of the furniture. Once you get to an end, release the trigger and move the nozzle to the left or right of the original path and repeat. When you have covered the entire piece of upholstery furniture, repeat the cleaning process without squeezing the trigger to pick up any excess moisture.
