Most foundations contain either a wood or metal frame and feature springs. Torsion module foundations look like box springs but utilize metal bars instead of springs. Foundations intended for foam mattresses or bunk beds look like a flat wooden board and sometimes wooden slats no more than 5 centimeters apart. Bed frames, which raise the mattress off the ground, are additional parts of the foundation unit and offer mattress support.
Replace your mattress foundation unit at the same time you replace your mattress. If your old mattress wore out too soon, it may have been due to a faulty foundation unit.
Don't purchase a mattress foundation if you notice cracks to the structure, or if it isn't straight or level.
