How to Repair Burn Holes in a Fabric Couch

Burns on fabric appear difficult to repair because they are usually in an obvious location and are too small to require the entire cushion to be replaced. Their small size works in their favor though, because they can be fixed with the fabric already available on the couch and a little fabric glue. These patches work well and are usually difficult to spot once they are completely finished. The most common culprit of burns is from cigarettes.

Instructions

    • 1

Trim away any remaining burnt fabric and stray fiber with small scissors.

    • 2

Fill the burn hole with a bit of cotton if the hole is deep enough to leave an indentation. Ensure the stuffing is level with the surface of the fabric on the couch.

    • 3

Cut a small amount of fabric away from under the couch or another unnoticeable area. Some couches have wide hems that allow you to trim a small amount for the patch. Make sure the fabric is big enough to cover the hole.

    • 4

Dab a small amount of fabric glue around the hole and place the patch on top. Make sure the fabric's pattern is lined up with the fabric on the couch. Press the patch in place.

Lay a piece of plastic over the patch and set a heavy object on it to hold it in place. Allow the glue to dry overnight. Remove the weight and plastic in the morning.
