How to Remove Felt Stuck on Shelves

Felt is a common craft item you can find on the bottoms of various furniture. When felt is stuck on shelves, removing it can be a daunting task. As you carefully peel the felt off, it can rip, leaving smaller pieces of the material clinging to the shelves. Even after you have removed the felt, its residue can remain. Fortunately, several inexpensive items you can find in your kitchen or bathroom will help loosen the stuck felt from the shelves.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

Scrape remaining felt off the shelves with a plastic paint scrapper. Scrape carefully so as not to damage the shelf surface.

    • 2

Apply water-displacing spray on the remaining felt and its residue. Let the liquid soak for 10 minutes before scraping the remaining felt off the shelves with the paint scraper. Alternatively, use olive oil if you don't have water-displacing spray.

Wipe the paint scraper clean with a paper towel after each passing. Continue applying the water-displacing spray and scraping with the plastic scrapper until you have removed all traces of the stuck felt.
