How to Clean Pitting on Chrome

The chrome on your motorcycle, bicycle or automobile wheels stands up to a beating, but without proper nurturing it may develop pitting where the chrome plating is damaged or destroyed. Some of these marks will come off with elbow grease. Metal polish will remove light to moderate pitting while protecting the rest of the chrome from damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour a quarter-sized amount of metal polish on a damp sponge with an abrasive side.

    • 2

Rub the metal polish over your chrome, concentrating on the areas that are pitted. Use firm pressure, and apply more metal polish as needed to saturate the area.

    • 3

Let the polish sit on the chrome until it clouds or hazes over.

    • 4

Buff the chrome with a clean cloth. As you buff the area, you remove the metal polish and the pitting on your chrome.
