How to Get Rid of Heavy Nicotine and Oily Residue on Wood Furniture

Caused by cigarette smoke, nicotine covers in an oily residue the surfaces of all with which it comes in contact. When wood furniture becomes encased in a heavy nicotine residue, the oily substance stains and discolors the furniture, leaving it a smelly eyesore. Trying to remove the nicotine and residue with common cleaners do little to restore wood furniture. Fortunately, you can get rid of the nicotine and oil residue with common household items.

Instructions

    • 1

Dampen a clean sponge in pure white vinegar. Wipe the nicotine and residue off the wood furniture with the sponge.

    • 2

If the residue remains after the vinegar wipe, put on a pair of rubber gloves and ventilate the area in which you are working.

    • 3

Pour 1 cup ammonia and 1 gallon cold water in a bucket. Lie flat a plastic tarp or drop cloth and sit the wood furniture on top of it.

    • 4

Submerge a clean rag in the solution. Start at the top of the wood furniture and gently scrub while moving downward.

    • 5

Dampen a clean cloth with cool water and wipe the wood furniture to remove the ammonia residue. Remove excess liquid off the wood with a towel and let the furniture air dry.
