How to Get Nicotine Stains Out of White Wicker

Created by weaving vines, grasses, or plants together, wicker is a common material for outdoor furniture. With the proper care and cleaning, wicker will last for years. When cigarette smoke comes in contact with white wicker, it can leave a yellow residue and unpleasant odor on the furniture. This residue can cause the wicker to appear dull and dingy. Fortunately, a few common cleaners will help remove the nicotine and restore the white wicker.

    • 2

Brush the surface of the wicker with a soft-bristled scrub brush to remove dust and debris.

    • 3

Fill a plastic bucket with 2 cups of cold water. Pour 1/4 cup of gentle dish soap and 1 cup of white vinegar into the water. Mix the ingredients well.

    • 4

Saturate a sponge in the foamy mixture, and start scrubbing the top of the white wicker. Scrub gently while moving downward toward the bottom of the piece.

    • 5

Rinse the mixture from the wicker with cool water. Flip the wicker over and repeat the process on the back side.
