How to Cure the Stickiness of Leather Furniture

Leather furniture is both attractive and durable, but only if you care for it properly. Whether you have a single leather sofa or chair in your home or a house full of leather furniture, proper cleaning is essential. Leather furniture should not become sticky the way vinyl or leather-look materials do, so you've probably spilled something on it.

Instructions

    • 1

Dip a soft white cloth in water and wring out the excess until the cloth is just damp. The water you use should be at room temperature, neither hot nor cold.

    • 2

Rub the damp cloth over the entire surface of the leather furniture. Concentrate especially on any parts of the leather that are already sticky. Rub the cloth over the sticky spots to lift the dirt out of the grain.

    • 3

Fill a shallow bowl with warm water and add one tbsp. of liquid dish soap. Dip a soft cloth or sponge in the water and wring it out until it is just damp. Alternatively, use a leather cleaner recommended by the manufacturer of your furniture.

Rub the cloth into any remaining sticky areas of the furniture. Wipe away the remaining moisture and dry the leather with a soft, white cloth.
