How to Fix Sofa Burns

Whether you accidentally dropped a candle or got a little too relaxed while smoking a cigarette, chances are you'll have an ugly burn mark left on your couch. Burns are especially common on microfiber and suede sofas as these materials are extremely sensitive to heat. Instead of spending money on an expensive slip cover or having your cushions reupholstered, you can mask the burn with a patch. For best results, select a patch that is made of the same fabric and color as the rest of your couch.

Instructions

    • 1

Brush the burnt area with a bristled brush to remove pieces of burnt fabric. Cut away the burnt edges surrounding the hole using a pair of small scissors. Ensure that no stray strands of fabric remain.

    • 2

Cut the fabric patch so that it is at least one inch larger than the burn mark on all sides.

    • 3

Apply a liberal amount of fabric glue to the end of a wooden Popsicle stick. Spread a thin layer of glue around the hole in the sofa. Coat the underside of the patch with a thin layer of glue.

    • 4

Center the patch over the hole and lower it into place. Apply firm pressure to the patch for two to three minutes.

    • 5

Place a large book over the patch and allow the fabric glue to cure for the time suggested on the container.
