How to Get a Smell Out of a Suede Couch

Porous suede surfaces absorb odors from the air and from direct contact with odor-causing substances, such as smoke, body odor and food smells. In addition, because suede is a natural surface, it becomes damaged when subjected to excessive amounts of moisture. You can remove smells from your suede couch with common household supplies that remove the smell without damaging the suede.

Instructions

    • 1
A light application of vinegar cleans and deodorizes your suede couch.

Fill a spray bottle halfway with white vinegar. Add water to fill the remainder of the bottle.

    • 2

Spritz stained areas of the suede couch with the diluted vinegar. Blot the suede with a clean cloth to lift stains that can contribute toward odor.

    • 3

Allow the couch to air-dry completely.

    • 4

Sprinkle baking soda over the surface of the suede couch. Allow the baking soda to absorb remaining odors overnight.

    • 5

Vacuum your suede couch to remove the baking soda. Brush the suede to fluff and blend the nap.
