Scrape any solid grease from the spot with a playing card. Hold the long edge of the card on one side of the stain nearly parallel with the upholstery. Push the card forward quickly to lift the grease. Wipe off the card quickly, or it will stain, too.
Pour a generous amount of baby powder onto the grease spot. Leave it in place for 30 minutes, then scoop off the baby powder with a playing card. Repeat until no more grease is transferred to the baby powder. If you do not have baby powder, try blotting the grease with a paper towel.
Mix a toothpaste-thick paste of Fuller's earth and a liquid spot remover. Spread a 1/4-inch layer on the grease spot and the inch of fabric surrounding it. Allow it to dry. This may take several hours. Scrape off the paste. If the grease stain fades, repeat until the stain is gone or you make no more progress.
Saturate the grease stain with mineral spirits. Blot the mineral spirits with a clean white towel. Once the area is completely dry, if the grease stain has faded, reapply mineral spirits until the stain is gone or you make no more progress.
Place a clean, lint-free towel over the grease stain. Run a warm iron, on the lowest setting, slowly over the stain. Lift the towel to see if any of the grease stain transferred. Repeat with a fresh section of the towel until no more grease transfers. Don't run the iron off the towel and onto the upholstery. It may damage the finish on the upholstery.
