How to Get Baby Oil Out of a Suede Sofa

Suede is the napped leather created from the underside of deer, cow, goat, pig and lamb skin. It is much less durable than traditional leather and requires more care when cleaned. Baby oil, which is a made from a combination of mineral oil, fragrance, aloe vera and acetate, creates an unpleasant oily finish on the suede and will permanently stain the fabric if not treated properly. Use the correct cleaning products and tools to remove the baby oil without damaging the suede’s nap.

Microfiber cloth
Baking soda
Cotton balls
White vinegar
Soft-bristled toothbrush

Instructions

  Dab at the baby oil stain with a microfiber cloth. Avoid rubbing the stain to avoid working it further into the fabric.

  Cover the stained area with a thin layer of baking soda. Allow the baking soda to remain for 10 to 15 minutes. During this time the baking soda absorbs the baby oil, lifting it from the suede.

  Wet a cotton ball with white vinegar. Dab at the baby oil stain with the cotton ball until it is completely gone.

  Wet a cotton ball with warm water and dab at the suede to rinse away the white vinegar. Allow the suede to dry completely.

  Restore the suede’s nap by rubbing the affected area in a circular motion with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
