Whether its leather shoes, clothing or furniture, leather needs moisture to prevent dry-rot, peeling and cracking. Leather was once the hide of a living animal kept supple by natural oils. The tanning process transforms the hide into a usable product that no longer has this natural protection. Gently rubbing a moisturizer into leather keeps it in tip-top condition. Although leather moisturizers are available in stores, save yourself some money by making your own.
