How to Get Rid of Ballpoint Writing on a Leather Sofa

Your leather sofa is probably the focal point of your living room. Though you try to keep it clean, stains happen. If someone drops a ballpoint pen on the cushions, or if a child uses a pen to write on the leather, you may worry that the ink stains will never come out. However, ballpoint pen ink can be removed with rubbing alcohol, and your leather sofa can look new again.

Instructions

    • 1

Add dish soap to a wet towel. Scrub the ink with the wet, soapy towel as soon as the stain occurs. This may not remove all the ink, but it will reduce the severity of the stain. Be careful not to spread the ink; work from the outside of the stain toward the center.

    • 2

Soak a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol, then squeeze out the excess. Dab the ink stain with the cotton ball.

    • 3

Continue to gently rub the stain with rubbing alcohol until the ink fades completely.

    • 4

Wipe the affected area with a clean, damp towel.
