How to Clean Rubberwood Furniture

Rubberwood is also called parawood or Malaysian oak and is considered a green alternative to slow-growing wood. This is because it is first used to make latex and then for home furnishings or toys, allowing it to have two uses in its life. Rubberwood is a dry wood that needs to be properly conditioned and maintained for it to look its best. When cleaning any type of wood, consider the type of coating it has on the surface to determine the best products to use.

Instructions

    • 1

Dust the furniture at least twice a week with a lint-free cloth. Removing dust prevents the wood from becoming scratched and helps it look its best as long as possible.

    • 2

Wash the wood at least once a year with dish soap in warm water. Use a soft cloth and wash in all the crevices. Rinse with plain water and dry the wood.

    • 3

Remove heavy grime by mixing 1 cup gum turpentine and 3 cups boiled linseed oil in a jar. Shake to mix before you use it. Pour hot water into a cup and add some of the mixture onto the top, it will sit on the surface and the water will make it more fluid. Dip a rag into the oily cleaner and rub it onto the wood. This conditions as it cleans.

    • 4

Mix gum turpentine and boiled linseed oil together at an equal ratio and rub it into the wood until it is absorbed. Rubberwood is a dry wood, so apply the mixture liberally and use a second coat if you haven't done it recently. Treat the wood with the polish every month for four months and then twice a year.
