How to Get Rid of Built-Up Wax & Surface Stains on an Antique Dining Table

Antique dining tables require special care to maintain their natural beauty. Too little wax or oil can cause the wood to dry out, but a thick layer can trap dirt and debris in the finish. Buildup typically gets worse with age and requires a deep cleaning to remove the old, dingy wax. A water-based wash with boiled linseed oil and turpentine removes surface stains and buildup while refreshing the finish.

Dip a cloth into the bucket while wearing rubber gloves. Wring out the cloth and thoroughly wipe the antique dining table to remove any stains or buildup. Rinse the cloth in the bucket as needed.

Dry the antique dining table with a clean cloth. If the table looks dry or dull, apply a thin layer of lemon oil to the wood with a clean, dry cloth and wipe away any excess oil.
