Leather is a costly material to use in the home, making leather furniture an investment. Although cats may make your home happier and more entertaining, they also wreak havoc on the furniture inside with their sharp claws. Instructions

    • 1

Trim away any loose fibers and small bits of leather using scissors. This tidies up the area for treatment.

    • 2

Remove more damaged leather from the area by sanding it with 320p sandpaper. Once you finish sanding the area, sand it further using 1200p sandpaper. 1200p sandpaper smoothes the surface of the leather for the next step.

    • 3

Clean the leather's surface using an alcohol-based leather cleaner. Allow the cleaner to dry for about 10 minutes.

    • 4

Spread heavy leather filler over the scratch marks using a palette knife. Allow the filler to dry for 5 to 10 minutes and then sand with 1200p sandpaper to further fill in the damaged areas.

    • 5

Dab leather colorant, in a shade close to or exactly matching your leather, onto the scratched areas using a sponge. Allow the colorant to dry for about five minutes, and then add another layer of colorant using the sponge. Repeat this process until you achieve the color you desire.

    • 6

Spray lacquer onto the newly treated area to restore luster to the leather. Allow the leather to sit, undisturbed, overnight to allow the treatment products to cure.
