How to Get Glue Off a Maple Tabletop

While glue can be dissolved or scraped away from most hard surfaces, the removal process needs to be carefully planned when the glue is on a finished wood table. If you have accidentally dripped glue on your maple tabletop, damaging the finish during removal is probably one of your major concerns. Unfortunately, the glue itself may have lifted some of the finish, but you can use the most gentle glue-removal technique to prevent further damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak a clean cloth in warm water and wring it out.

    • 2

Lay the damp cloth over the glue and leave it there for two to three hours. This should soften the glue and make it easier to remove.

    • 3

Remove the damp cloth and wipe the softened glue away with a dry cloth. If some of the glue remains, wet the damp cloth with fresh warm water and place it over the glue for two to three more hours to repeat the process.
