How to Get Rid of the Smell of Beer in a Couch Cushion

Beer spills on couch cushions leave a pungent, stale odor that lingers well after wiping up the liquid, and can permanently set into the couch cushion if left untreated. The smell of beer is an indication the spill was not thoroughly eliminated, and requires strong yet non-abrasive cleaning to remove the stains and neutralize the odor. The cleaning process depends on the type of couch cushion because some materials can be easily damaged by harsh cleaning products and tools. Check your couch's care and cleaning instructions on the tag so that you can clean it safely and prevent irreversible damage.

    • 3

Wet the stained area with the wet cloth, and blot the cushion until the homemade solution is completely removed from the cushion.

    • 4

Rewet the damp cloth with the cleaning solution, and continue blotting the stain until the smell fades from the cushion.

    • 5

Wet a new cloth with cool water and blot the wet area to rinse off the cleaning solution.

    • 6

Rub the cushion's wet area with a dry cloth to remove excess moisture, and allow the cushion to air dry.

    • 7

Sprinkle baking soda directly onto the couch cushion and wait 15 minutes for the powder to neutralize the odor.

    • 8

Vacuum the baking soda from the couch cushion with the vacuum cleaner's brush attachment.
