How to Not Have the Couch Slide on Tile

Taking precautions to prevent your furniture from slipping can make the difference between flawless and marred flooring. Tile is available in a number of materials from clay to ceramic, and tends to be slippery, preventing furniture from gripping it. Couches can slide on tile surfaces while you clean around furniture or when the couch is in use. Such ongoing movement can lead to scuffs, scratches and chips in your tile. Equip your couch feet with nonslip material to prevent it from sliding and avoid tile damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove cushions, pillows and throw blankets from the couch. Ask an assistant to help you flip the couch over on its back so that the legs are facing outward. Measure the diameter of circular couch feet or the length and width of square or rectangular couch feet.

    • 2

Clean each couch foot with an all-purpose cleaner and dry them with a paper towel to remove dust and dirt, so nonslip furniture pads will adhere better.

    • 3

Peel the adhesive backing off self-adhesive rubber grippers, felt pads or antislip tape and press the adhesive side onto each foot of the couch. Ask your assistant to help put the couch back on its feet.
