Locate the cover's cleaning tag for specific cleaning symbols. The letter “W” printed on the tag indicates use of water-based cleaning agents, “S” symbolizes use of dry-cleaning solvents, “WS” represents use of either water-based cleaning agents or dry-cleaning solvents, and “X” indicates vacuum only without use of any liquid cleaning supplies.
Remove all pillows from the couch. Glide a vacuum’s brush attachment device across the entire polyester couch cover to extract loose grime and allergens. Stop cleaning now if the couch cover’s tag displays an “X.”
Prepare the appropriate cleaning solution based upon the letter printed on the polyester cover’s tag. For the letter “W,” mix 2 tablespoons of ammoniated detergent with 1 quart of water inside a bowl, and then dampen a rag in the solution. Simply moisten a rag with water-free, dry-cleaning solvent for the letter “S.”
Blot remaining stains on the polyester cover lightly with the moistened rag. Consistently turn the rag to ensure only clean portions of the rag touch the couch cover.
Continue blotting the stains with the appropriate agent, whether the ammoniated detergent solution or dry-cleaning solvent, until the stains disappear.
Let the polyester couch cover fully air-dry. No rinsing is necessary.
Remove all pillows from the couch. Slip the polyester cover off the couch.
Take the couch cover outdoors and shake it to release loose grime.
Set the washing machine to fill with warm water. Add 2 ounces of color-safe laundry detergent to the filling washer drum.
Place the polyester couch cover loosely in the washing machine. Do not overfill the washing machine.
Set the washing machine on a heavy load cycle. Let the machine clean the couch cover.
Place the laundered couch cover in the dryer. Dry the polyester cover with low heat, and remove the cover once the tumbling cycle is over.
Slip the clean polyester couch cover back onto the couch. Pull the corners of the cover tightly to smooth out wrinkles, and then replace the pillows on the couch.
