How to Install a Metal Futon

A futon serves the dual purpose of a chair and a bed. It is a useful piece of furniture that transforms from a seat to a bed. For that reason, a futon is ideal as a guest bed and a couch that can be placed on a porch or inside a house. Futons are made of wood or metal. Although many manufacturers produce futons and most include installation instructions, the construction, assembly and installation of metal futons follow the same procedure.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Separate the metal futon frame's two arm assemblies. Screw the supplied bolts loosely into their holes on the stretcher assemblies with a flat-head screwdriver, and attach the supplied nuts to the bolts loosely with an Allen wrench.

    • 2

Slip one end of the first stretcher rod into the groove made for it in the first arm assembly, and then loosely hold it in place with its set of screws and nuts. Repeat the procedure with the second stretcher rod at the other end of the arm assembly. Slide the second arm assembly onto the free ends of the stretcher rods.

    • 3

Fit the two deck flats together with the supplied clevis pin, sliders and screws. Ensure that the hinge of the spliced deck flats can move freely so that you will be able to transform the futon from chair to bed and vice versa.

    • 4

Lower the fitted deck flats into the space between the stretcher rods. Bolt the deck assembly to the rods and then to both arm assemblies.

    • 5

Tighten all the loose pins, bolts and screws on the futon frame's base and arms. Place the futon mattress on the frame.
