How to Clean Jardine Rocking Chairs

Jardine Enterprises manufactures furniture for both babies and adults and includes rocking chairs in its selection. The chairs normally have cushions on both the seat and backing to provide padding and make them more comfortable. The cushions require some extra cleaning if something gets spilled on them. Regularly clean your Jardine rocking chair to keep it maintained and looking its best.

Things You'll Need

  • Damp rag
  • Wood cleaner
  • Rubber gloves
  • Water bucket
  • Soft scrub brush
  • Towel
  • Tarp
  • White vinegar
  • Spray bottle
  • Absorbent cloth
  • Sponge
  • Hair dryer

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cushions from the rocking chair so you have easier access to all the wood of the frame.

    • 2

Wipe down the chair with a damp rag to remove dust, dirt and debris. Too much water can damage wood but a damp rag won't be wet enough to run that risk.

    • 3

Place the chair on a tarp to avoid getting soap or water on your floor. Mix a wood cleaner with water in accordance with the cleaner's instructions and then apply the cleaner to the chair with a soft scrub brush to remove any tough stains. Wear rubber gloves to prevent skin exposure. Dry the chair thoroughly with a towel to remove excess moisture. Avoid using a harder brush that can scratch the wood.

    • 4

Treat stains on the cushions by spraying them with a half-and-half solution of warm water and white vinegar from a spray bottle. White vinegar is a very effective natural cleaner that will remove a large number of stains. Allow the vinegar mixture to sit on the stains for a minute and then soak it up with an absorbent cloth.

    • 5

Remove the covers from the chair cushions if the Jardine instructions claim them as washable. Wash the cushion covers with your regular laundry. Follow any specialized instructions on the tags.

    • 6

Mix a few drops of laundry detergent with warm water and apply it to the cushions with a sponge. Rinse off the laundry detergent with a clean damp sponge. Use a hair dryer on the cushions after you're done washing them to help get moisture out and prevent mold growth. The hair dryer will not be as harsh on the cushion material as a clothes dryer could be.

Place the covers back on the cushions and set the cushions back on the rocking chair frame.
