Lending both comfort and aesthetic appeal, microfiber couches are easy to care for and clean. While you can have your couch professional cleaned by an upholstery cleaner, you can also opt to take care of it yourself. With a few materials you may already have lying around your home; your microfiber can look like new again.
Between pets, kids and day-to-day life your couch can accumulate quite a bit of dirt. Hiding between the fibers, dirt and food particles can make your couch appear dingy and dull. Use the brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt. Remove cushions and vacuum both sides as well as underneath. Force the brush gently into cracks and hard to reach places to remove as much dirt as possible.
Often you can clean stains and soiled areas with warm soapy water. Use the mildest soap available and avoid bleaches and added fragrances. Dampen a cloth or sponge with the soapy water and wring it out. Don’t saturate the couch because it can lead to mildew problems later. Once the area is clean, allow it time to air dry without covering it up with blankets or pillows or sitting on it.
Baking soda is an effective material in removing grease stains. Sprinkle baking soda over a grease stain after blotting up as much fresh grease as you can with a paper towel. Leave the baking soda on the area overnight and vacuum it up in the morning. Much of the stain will have been absorbed. You can use soapy water to clean up the rest. If your couch doesn’t smell all that clean from smoke or pets that tend to sleep on it, sprinkle baking soda over the couch and leave it overnight to absorb odors. Vacuum it up in the morning.
Not only does fabric refresher give your couch a pleasant smell, it’s effective in removing pet hair. Mist an area with it and use a gloved hand to wipe the area in a circular motion. Rubber or latex gloves work well for this. As you gently wipe the couch, the pet hair will ball up into your hand. Dispose of the pet hair and continue spritzing and wiping to eliminate as much hair as possible.
