How to Get a Smoke Smell Out of a Sofa

If you allow people to smoke in the home, it will accumulate a stale smoke smell.   • Baking soda
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • White vinegar
  • Spray bottle
  • Steam cleaner

      Sprinkle baking soda over the entire sofa, including cushions. Let the baking soda stand on the sofa overnight, then vacuum. Baking soda works well as a deodorizing agent that pulls the smoke smell out of the sofa, along with any other type of odor. It also works well on carpeting and other upholstery surfaces around the home.

      Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar. White vinegar is a natural deodorizer and can be misted over the furniture as a freshening spray. There will be a slight vinegar odor until the smell dissipates, but it will remove the unpleasant smell of the stale smoke. This product can also be used as an air freshening spray plus be sprayed onto carpets and other upholstery around the home.

      Steam-clean your sofa if smoke odor is still present. Add water and steam cleaner to the piece of equipment, turn on and rub across the sofa. Clean the cushions as well, and let the sofa air-dry.
