How to Care for a Maple Tabletop

Maple is classified as a hardwood, making it a strong, long-lasting addition to your wood furniture. Although durable, a maple tabletop requires appropriate cleaning and conditioning to bring out its brilliant shine and rich allure. Improper cleaning may scratch or remove the maple wood finish, resulting in a dilapidated tabletop. With the correct tools and products you can rest assured your maple tabletop will continue to dazzle.

Things You'll Need

  • Dishrag
  • Cloths
  • Furniture polish
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Tablecloth
  • Place mats
  • Coasters
  • Hot pads or trivets

Instructions

    • 1

Place your maple table away from direct sunlight, or close drapes during the time sun would shine directly on the table. The sun's rays fade the wood surface, leaving your tabletop dull and washed out.

    • 2

Clean and polish the table at least once a week. Scrub stuck food with a damp dishrag, and wipe dry with a clean cloth. Spray the table generously with furniture wax. Wipe off the excess wax with a microfiber cloth.

    • 3

Drape the maple tabletop with a tablecloth when entertaining to keep spills from staining the wood surface. Use placemats for everyday dining, and place coasters on the table for beverage glasses to keep the condensation from leaving white water spots.

    • 4

Place hot pads or trivets under baking dishes to protect the tabletop from scorch marks.
