# How to Repair Scuffed Leather Sofas
There are three basic types of leather used for sofas. Aniline leather is dyed. Nubuck leather is buffed to create a velvet finish. Pigmented leather features a color on the top layer of the hide. While a leather sofa is a nice addition to a room, it requires more maintenance than an upholstered sofa because it shows wear and tear faster. Removing scuff marks when you notice them is essential to maintaining the appearance of the sofa and must be done with the appropriate products to prevent damage.

- Blow dryer
- Leather protectant
- Cloth
- Nylon brush
- Leather conditioner for nubuck

Warm up the scuffed area with a blow dryer on low-heat setting.

Massage the leather by hand to remove the scuff.

Apply a leather protectant to the area using a dry, clean cloth to restore sheen.
Nubuck

Brush the scuffed area with a firm nylon brush, moving the brush back and forth across the area until the scuff marks are removed.

Wipe away dust created by brushing with a dry, clean cloth.

Apply a leather conditioner for nubuck to the area with a dry, clean cloth.
Pigmented Leather

Apply a small amount of leather protectant to a dry, clean cloth.

Blot the scuff marks with the soft cloth until they disappear. If the area looks dull after blotting, buff the area with a dry cloth to restore gloss.
