Use a regular vacuum cleaner to clean the carpet surface prior to using the Bissell shampooer.
Unhook the water tank from the main unit and slide it up and out of the cleaner. Unscrew the cap and fill the tank with hot, clean water. Close the cap in a clockwise direction.
Unhook the cleaning formula tank from the cleaner and lift it up and out. Unscrew the cap and fill with Bissell brand cleaner. Close the lid and screw in a clockwise direction.
Seat both the cleaning formula and the water tanks on the unit firmly, and latch them into place.
Plug the Bissell shampooer into a power outlet and turn on the power switch. Select the cleaning setting, using "Water Only" for delicate surfaces, "Normal" for most carpet surfaces and soil levels, and "High Traffic" for carpets that receive a lot of wear and tear or are very dirty.
Turn the power switch to "Clean" and step on the foot release pedal. Lower the handle and squeeze on the handle trigger. Hold down the trigger while pushing the cleaner over the now damp carpet surface. Pull it back over the same section and release the trigger. Push it over the same area again, but do not press the trigger.
Repeat in overlapping sections until the entire carpet area has been cleaned satisfactorily. Turn off and unplug the Bissell.
Remove the tanks from the base of the unit, and empty them in a sink. Rinse well and set them aside to dry. Once the tanks are dry, return the tanks to the carpet cleaner and store the unit in a cool and dry location.
