Preparation and Maintenance

  Ensure that the FloorMate 500 is unplugged from the wall before attempting to fill or refill the solution tank. Raise the handle into an upright position until it locks into place. Remove the upper solution tank by squeezing the release button and pulling the tank straight out, then take it to a sink.

  Turn the tank cap counterclockwise and lift up to remove it. Using the cap as a measuring cup, fill the cap with 2 ounces of Hoover FloorMate cleaner and pour the solution into the tank. Fill the tank to the 1-quart line with warm water.

  Replace the tank cap, and turn it clockwise until it is locked into place. Slide the solution tank back into the FloorMate until the latch snaps.

  Empty the recovery tank when full, or between dry and wet cleaning. Unplug the FloorMate from the wall. Press the release button and pull the recovery tank straight out. Remove the tank lid, empty the tank into the trash, and replace the lid. Slide the bottom of the tank behind the indicated ledge, then push the tank in until it snaps into place.

  Wash the reusable filters when suction becomes reduced. Remove the recovery tank and lid as instructed earlier. Remove the filter lid on the bottom of the tank lid and remove the filter. Using your hand, gently tap or brush the filter to remove any loose dirt or debris. Rinse the filter under warm water to remove any extra dirt. Allow the filter to air-dry, then reposition it. Replace the filter lid and press down firmly until it snaps into place. Slide the tank back into the FloorMate as previously instructed.

Clean Hard-Floor Surfaces

  Turn the mode selector dial to the "Dry vac" setting to clean loose dirt, hair and debris. When you are done, turn off the cleaner and empty the recovery tank. Press the release button under the handle to lower the handle into the storage position.

  Turn the dial to the "Wash" setting to loosen dirt and wet-clean hard-floors using the SpinScrub brushes. Step on the handle release pedal at the bottom of the FloorMate to lower the handle into the "Wash" operating position, then turn the FloorMate "On." Squeeze the trigger on the handle to release the cleaning solution, and slowly move the cleaner back and forth over the floor. The dirty liquid goes into the recovery tank in the lower part of the SpinScrub.

  To prevent streaking, overlap strokes as you clean. Turn the dial to the "Wet pick up" setting, and continue to move the cleaner over the area to pick up dirty solution and speed up drying. When you are done, turn off the FloorMate and remove the recovery tank. Empty the tank into a sink or drain, rinse it out thoroughly, then place the tank back into the FloorMate.

  Use the FloorMate to pick up spills of 1 quart or less. Turn the dial to the "Wet pick up" setting and move the FloorMate back and forth over the spill. When finished, turn off the cleaner and remove the recovery tank. Empty the tank into a sink or drain, rinse it out thoroughly, and reinstall it in the FloorMate.
