Machines to Wash Tile Floors

Washing a tiled floor is a case of two tasks in one. You have to clean both the tiles and the grouting between them. As tiled floors are normally located in kitchens and bathrooms, you also have to make sure they are hygienically clean. To clean a tiled floor manually, you have little option other than to get down on your knees and scrub the grouting with a hot bleach solution to whiten it. You then have to wash the tiles with a solution of hot water and detergent. It's not the most attractive of prospects, but there are machines which will make the task much easier.
  1. Cleaning Machines for Tiled Flooring

    • There are two types of appliances with which to clean tiled flooring. One is a floor washing machine with an additional tool for scrubbing the grouting between the tiles. The other is a steam cleaner with both a floor cleaning head for the tiles and a small brush for the grouting. A steam mop will clean the tiles, but unless it converts to a handheld steamer, it will not have the necessary brush to clean grouting.

Examples of Tiled Floor Cleaning Machines

    • The Hoover Floormate Spin Scrub is equipped to wash both tiles and the grouting between them. It is supplied with a separate stiff brush designed to remove stains from grouting. The tiles are cleaned by its floor-washing function. This type of machine uses detergent during the cleaning process. The Polti Eco 3000 Steam Cleaner is equipped with a small brush for grout cleaning. Its floor head is used to steam mop the tiles. Steam cleaners do not use detergent. Machines of both types are manufactured by other companies.

Cleaning Tiled Flooring With a Floor Washing Machine

    • Attach the grout cleaning brush to the wand on the end of the machine's hose. Squeeze the trigger on the hose handle to release cleaning solution while scrubbing the grouting at the same time. Release the trigger, and allow the machine to vacuum up the cleaning solution and dirt it has released from the grouting. To wash the tiles, remove the grout brush and revert to using the cleaner's main floor head. Turn on the brushes and move the machine over a section of tiling. At the same time, squeeze the main trigger to release cleaning fluid on to the tiles. Release the trigger and allow the main cleaning head to suck up the used cleaning solution and dirt.

Cleaning Tiled Flooring With a Steam Cleaner

    • Prepare the floor tool by securing a steam cleaner microfiber cloth to it. Attach the extension wands to the handle and place one of the small round brushes on the end. Turn the steam on to full pressure and scrub each section of grouting. Take the round brush off the extension wands and attach the floor tool. Turn the steam down to approximately half power. Mop the tiles with the floor head. This action cleans the tiles and removes the grime loosened from the grouting.
