How to Troubleshoot a Hoover Mach 5 Vacuum

The Hoover Mach 5 is a bagless upright vacuum cleaner that features a multi-chamber cyclone cleaning chamber, easy-to-clean dirt cup, HEPA filter, pet hair cleaning tool, automatic cord winding, headlight, soft wheels to protect floors, multi-height adjustment, wide cleaning path and adjustable handle height. The Mach 5 is sold online and in many department, home retail or appliance stores and comes with a limited warranty. Minor issues that may arise with the vacuum cleaner can potentially be resolved by the owner through some troubleshooting.

      Check the power cord and make sure that it's is completely plugged into both the Mach 5 vacuum and an electrical outlet. Reset or replace the fuse or circuit breaker as needed.

      Move the nozzle control knob to a different setting if there is no suction during use. Look inside the hose and nozzle for potential obstructions and clean to ensure proper air flow. Step on the foot pedal to ensure the agitator brush roll is turned on during use.

      Clean the dirt cup if dirt is coming back out of the vacuum during cleaning or if suction is poor. Push down on the release lever and pull the dirt cup from the base. Hold the dirt cup over a waste bin and push down on the release button on the side of the cup. Empty the dirt cup, close the lid and replace the dirt cup on the vacuum cleaner.

      Clean the filters if the vacuum is operating poorly or there is no suction. Lift out the dirt cup and turn the filter assembly inside the dirt cup counterclockwise to open. Carefully brush dirt and lint off the filter with a soft brush. Replace the filter back inside the dirt cup. Slide the latch on the top of the dirt cup housing on the base unit to the right and pull down to remove the secondary filter. Remove the black foam filter from the assembly and rinse both parts in cold water. Air dry for at least 24 hours.

      Push the connector collar firmly onto the hose if the attachment tool is not working properly. The tabs should lock into place.
