How to Troubleshoot a Dirt Devil Handheld Vac Model 08240

The Dirt Devil 08240 hand vacuum is a small device meant to help clean areas that can be hard to reach with a traditional vacuum cleaner, such as stairs, cars, upholstery or other smaller areas. The device has a motorized brush roll, 20-foot-long cord, standard filtration, upholstery brush and dusting brush. Sold in many department and home retail stores, as well as online, the device should operate well with basic care and maintenance. Problems that arise, however, can often be resolved through some troubleshooting efforts.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the Dirt Devil hand vac into a power outlet if nothing is working on the vacuum. Reset or replace the circuit breaker or fuse, if necessary.

    • 2

Push the nozzle firmly into the hose if the brush roll is not rotating.

    • 3

Push on the release lever and remove the dirt cup if the vacuum has poor suction or dirt is escaping. Empty the dirt cup. Grab the filter tab on the dust cup and pull the two apart to remove the filter. Tap the filter over a waste bin to clean. Reassemble the filter in the dirt cup and replace the dirt cup on the vacuum.

    • 4

Disconnect power and turn off the Dirt Devil if there seems to be an obstruction or reduced air flow. Remove the brush roll cover and remove the blockage.

    • 5

Check the hose and tools for blockages if there is no suction and the dirt cup and filter have been cleaned.
