How to Clean Rust Off Cake Decorating Tips

Whether its for a birthday or just for fun, decorating with frosting is your chance to customize the look and message of your cake. You can change out the tip of your applicator to give the frosting different shapes. Over time, these metal tips may become rusty. It is important to remove this oxidation before using the tips again.

      Spray WD-40 on the rusted areas of the icing tips. The lubricant breaks down the rust so that it can be removed easily. Let the tips sit with the lubricant on them for two minutes.

      Scrub the rusted areas of the decorating tips with a toothbrush to remove the broken down rust.

      Rinse the rust and lubricant from the tips. Wash the tips in the dishwasher before using.
