Troubleshooting Tips for a Fantom Twister Vacuum

Fantom vacuums offer different vacuum lines, including the Fantom Twister. While each model is different, you can apply general troubleshooting solutions to all models. Troubleshoot problems with your Fantom vacuum cleaner before calling a technician, especially if you have suction or agitator issues. You can usually fix these problems on your own, saving you money on technician fees. Fantom is no longer in business, so you must contact a local repair shop to fix your vacuum if you can't do it.
  1. Suction Problems

    • Always dump out the dirt and debris in the dust compartment when it gets full, as this can affect overall suction. Remove any clogs from the nozzle head and suction hose. Unscrew the screws holding the hose, nozzle air inlet pipe and nozzle head in place, and remove these components. Pull out any clogs that are caught. If necessary, use a plastic fork or knife to push the clogs through the opening. Do not use metal objects. Always unplug the vacuum from the wall before performing these steps. Replace the filter if necessary.

    HEPA Filter

    • Your HEPA filter is designed to work for a long time, but you must change it out once it gets dirty. If not, airflow performance will suffer. Depress the "D" button, and remove the filter cover. Take out the HEPA filter, and add a new filter. Reattach the cover. Do not wash the HEPA filter. If you see dust coming out the back of your vacuum while you are operating it, open the air filter cover and check that the filter and filter cover are installed correctly.

    No Power

    • Verify that the vacuum cleaner is turned to the "On" position. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet, and check that the outlet is live. Insert another appliance into the outlet to test it. Examine your circuit breaker, and reset if tripped. Look for broken or bad fuses. A non-working fuse has a black look, or it has broken wires. Replace it.

    Agitator

    • The agitator is the component of the vacuum cleaner that turns the brushes. If your brushes are not properly turning, shut off the vacuum, and unplug it from the wall. Unscrew the cover to the brushes, and examine the belt. If the belt is worn or broken, replace it with a new one. Only install the proper-size belts, or your vacuum will not work properly. If none of the above solutions fixes your problem, you must take your Fantom vacuum cleaner to a local repair shop.
