Dirt Devil & Lost of Power Troubleshooting

Dirt Devil is a brand of floor cleaning appliances sold by TTI Floor Care North America, headquartered in Glenwillow, Ohio. Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners are designed to thoroughly clean your floors and give you maximum sucking power. If you notice a decrease in suction, TTI Floor Care encourages you to troubleshoot the issues before you contact the company to service your vacuum cleaner.
  1. Tool Suction

    • If your attachment tools are not picking up dirt, check the hose. Unscrew the hose from the vacuum cleaner and look for clogs within the hose. Use a plastic utensil to move the clog through the hose if necessary. Clean your filter by lightly hitting on side of your trash can. Empty the dirt container if full. Always unplug your Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner before attempting to service it.

    Belt/Carpet Height Settings

    • If your vacuum has low suction, adjust the carpet height by moving the lever to the correct setting for the carpet. Flip your vacuum over, and look at the belt. Replace if it's broken or extremely worn. Remove the five screws on the nozzle base, and remove the nozzle guard. Remove the brushroll and old belt. Install the new belt and reattach the brushroll, nozzle guard and base. Look at the brushroll while you are changing the belt and replace it if the brushes are worn.

    Dirt Container/Hose

    • Empty out the dirt container if filled, as this reduces suction. Verify that you have correctly installed the dirt container. The slots on the lid must align with the tabs on the dirt container. Clean the filter, dirt passage hose or nozzle if dirty or clogged.

    Sundry Concerns

    • Always snugly insert your power cord into the wall outlet. Let the vacuum cleaner cool down if the "Thermal Protector" comes on. Check your fuses and circuit breaker. Replace bad fuses (black and/or with broken wires) and reset the circuit breaker if tripped. Replace a burnt-out bulb if your headlight won't turn on.

Verify that the dust container is properly installed and not full, if you see dust coming out the back of the vacuum cleaner.

Clean the filter. Look at the hose installation, and see if it's properly wrapped around the hose caddy. Push the hose completely into the opening at the base. If none of these solutions resolve your vacuum problems, call the company or a vacuum service technician.
