How to Clean a Gold Coffee Filter

Paper coffee filters may be convenient to use, but they soak up the most flavorful coffee oils, giving your brew a weaker flavor. Savvy coffee drinkers solve this problem by using a gold coffee filter. These filters consist of a basket lined with a gold-coated mesh that allows all the coffee flavor to flow through into the pot. Keep your coffee tasting good by cleaning your gold filter regularly. They aren't delicate and don't need special treatment, but they should be scrubbed of all residue every week.

Instructions

    • 1

Rinse your gold coffee filter after every pot of coffee. Dump out as many grounds as you can, then run the filter under hot running water until all the grounds are rinsed off the mesh.

    • 2

Place your gold coffee filter in the dishwasher once a week. Set the filter in the top rack of the dishwasher, because the plastic parts may melt in the bottom rack.

    • 3

Scrub your gold filter by hand once a week if you don't have a dishwasher. Squirt a small amount of dishwashing liquid onto a plastic dish brush. Scrub the inside and outside of the gold mesh with the brush. Rinse the filter completely until all the soap residue is gone.
