How to Troubleshoot a Hoover SteamVac Dual V

The Hoover SteamVac Dual V is an upright carpet extractor designed for heavy-duty cleaning of carpets and other floor and upholstery surfaces. The unit has a dirt cup, long power cord, attachment tool set, large water capacity, headlight and edge cleaning tools. Sold in many department, home retail and appliance stores, as well as online, the Dual V should function well with regular cleaning, maintenance and care. However, if problems do arise with the cleaner, some troubleshooting techniques may come in handy.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the SteamVac Dual V to a working power outlet if the carpet cleaner will not operate at all. Replace or reset the fuse or circuit breaker as needed.

    • 2

Lift the recovery tank off the front of the Dual V if the machine is not suctioning normally. Empty the tank, rinse and replace on the unit. Rock the tank slightly to ensure it is firmly seated on the carpet cleaner. Fill the water tank if it is low.

    • 3

Turn off and unplug the Dual V if there is a sudden change in tone, dirt is escaping from the unit or there is no suction. Examine inside the hose for an obstruction and disconnect the hose. Look inside for a blockage and clear as needed.

    • 4

Remove the water tank if the cleaning detergent does not dispense. Turn the valve cap in a counter-clockwise direction and remove it from the tank. Soak the cap in warm water for 15 minutes and then dry with a towel. Fill the cleaning tank to the "Max" mark with Hoover brand detergent.

    • 5

Open the clear lid on the filter screen, located on the bottom of the Dual V, if the brushes aren't moving. Use a damp cloth to wipe the screen. Move the setting selector to "On" and make sure there are no fibers caught in the brushes. Remove as needed with scissors once power has been disconnected.
