How to Work the Hoover Steam Scrub

Hoover is an American company that produces vacuum cleaners, carpet sweepers and steam cleaners. The Hoover SteamVac Spin Scrub uses hot water from a faucet and an agitator brush to clean floors. Cleaning solution is dispensed onto the floor while the agitator breaks up loose dirt. The machine then sucks up water, dirt and cleaning solution into a recovery tank which must be emptied when full.

Place the handle in its upright and locked position. Press down on the handle on the cleaning solution tank on the vacuum handle, and pull the tank straight up to remove it. Remove the cap from the tank and use it as a measuring cup to add cleaning solution. Pour the solution into the tank up to the line. Fill the remainder of the tank with hot water. Replace the lid and push the tank back into the handle cavity until it snaps into place.

    • 2

Slide the agitator lever on the front of the machine to choose the desired brush speed. Select either a high or low cleaning speed using the switch located on the handle. Plug the electrical cord into a wall outlet. Step on the right pedal on the machine to lower the handle. Step on the left pedal to start the machine.

    • 3

Push the machine forward while depressing the trigger on the handle to release cleaning solution onto the floor. Continue to hold the trigger in while pulling the machine back over the same area. Release the trigger and push and pull the machine over the same area to remove the water and cleaning solution from the floor. Continue until the entire area to be cleaned has been covered. Overlap each pass by one inch.

    • 4

Depress the surge button on the handle while depressing the trigger to dispense a higher level of cleaning solution over extremely dirty areas. Do not make more that four passes over the same area while depressing the trigger to avoid over-saturating the floor.

Empty the discharge tank when it is full. Do this by shutting the machine off and unplugging it from the wall outlet. Lower the handle to a horizontal position. Turn the retaining latches on each side of the tank outward. Lift the tank straight up and take it to a sink or tub. Lift up on the lid and pour the contents into a drain. Rinse out the tank in clear water and replace it in the reverse order of removal.

Rinse both the cleaning solution tank and the recovery tank in clear water when finished.
