How to Take a Hoover Sweeper Apart

Turn off the machine and unplug it from the wall outlet.

Depress the latch on the front of the dirt canister. Pull the top of the canister away from the handle, then lift it straight up. Remove the lid from the dirt canister.

Turn the canister lid over to reveal the filter housing. Move the top of the housing toward the center of the lid, and slide it up and out of the lid. Lift the filter element out the of the housing.

Remove the screw in the cover at the bottom of the dirt canister cavity on the vacuum using a Phillips-head screwdriver. Lift the cover up to remove the secondary filter.

Locate the final filter on the side of the dirt canister cavity on the vacuum. Push down on the top of the filter and pull it out of the cavity.

Remove the retaining screws from the headlight lens using a Phillips-head screwdriver. Remove the lens to access the bulb. Pull the bulb out of the light socket.

Lower the handle to its lowest setting. Turn the vacuum over to reveal the bottom. Remove the retaining screws from the bottom plate using a Phillips-head screwdriver. Lift the plate off of the bottom of the vacuum. Remove the cylindrical agitator from the bottom of the machine, pull it out of the belt and slide the belt off of the motor pulley.

Locate the handle retaining screws on the back side of the handle assembly. Remove the screws using a Phillips-head screwdriver, being careful not to lose the screw nuts within the dirt canister cavity. Lift the handle assembly up to remove it from the sweeper.
