How to Clean a Fridge With Bleach

Refrigerators need cleaning often to remove dirt and harmful bacteria. Cleaning the appliance regularly will prolong its life. Allowing the bacteria to grow inside the refrigerator can cause mold to form and the bacteria can harm the food. Disinfect your refrigerator with a diluted bleach solution; chlorine bleach effectively kills dangerous bacteria and it helps to remove offensive odors from the appliance.

Instructions

      Remove the food from inside the refrigerator and place it into an ice chest or cooler. Unplug the refrigerator from the wall.

      Remove the shelves, racks and drawers. Clean them with hot water and a mild dish detergent and then rinse with 1 tsp. of chlorine bleach diluted with 1 gallon of warm water. Dry the shelves, racks and drawers thoroughly with a towel.

      Wipe the refrigerator down with warm and soapy water. Remove odors from inside the refrigerator by combing 1 cup of baking soda with 1 gallon of water. Wipe the inside of the refrigerator with the solution and rinse it off with clean water.

      Disinfect the inside of the refrigerator with the diluted bleach solution. Dry the refrigerator thoroughly.

      Replace the shelves, racks and doors inside the refrigerator. Replace the food back into the refrigerator.

      Wash the exterior of the refrigerator with warm and soapy water. Disinfect the exterior including the handles with the diluted bleach solution and dry the fridge thoroughly.
