Pull out the bottom rack of your dishwasher and sprinkle a cup of baking soda on the bottom of the machine. The coarseness of the baking soda will scrub against the sides of the machine by the force of the water.
Turn the dishwasher on and let it run a full cycle. Leave the dishwasher empty besides the baking soda. Once the cycle is finished, let the machine cool and then wipe down the inside with a damp cloth to remove any residue.
Add 2 cups of white vinegar to the bottom of the machine to sanitize the washing machine. Run through a complete cycle and wipe away any residue once finished.
Find the two compartments allotted for the dishwashing detergent. One has a latched door and the other does not.
Fill both compartments halfway with liquid or powder detergent and close the lid of the one compartment. If you have detergent that comes in a tablet, place the tablet in the lidded compartment only and close the lid.
Run the dishwasher through a complete cycle.
