How to Fix Brushes on a Hoover SteamVac

The Hoover SteamVac is a two-tank carpet cleaning system; it keeps clean and dirty water separate and includes a built-in measuring cup for the cleaning solution. The power switch is located on the base to allow for easy operation with the touch of a foot, and the cleaner has a row of cleaning brushes to pull up dirt and debris and clean the carpet fibers. If the brushes stop working, you may be able to fix the brushes by conducting some troubleshooting steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Hoover SteamVac off and unplug the carpet cleaner from power. Remove the two tanks from the front of the unit by pressing down on each handle and pulling out.

    • 2

Step on the foot pedal to lower the cleaning handle into a horizontal placement. Turn the SteamVac over so that the bottom is face up.

    • 3

Hold the brush roll firmly and pull up slightly. Press in on the latches on both sides of the brush roll to completely release the brush roll.

    • 4

Use scissors to cut away long strings that may be caught on the brushes.

    • 5

Clean the brush roll with water to remove debris. Allow the brushes to dry.

    • 6

Set the posts of the brush roll in the slots on each side of the SteamVac and push in until it clicks.

    • 7

Replace the brush roll with a new brush roll, available through Hoover, if it's damaged or broken.
