21st Century Cleaning Methods

21st century cleaning methods differ from how things were done many years ago because of the products and appliances that are now available for us to clean with. We now have washing machines, chemical products and organic cleaning products that are specially formulated to clean a variety of surfaces in our homes. Prior to the 21st century clothes were washed by hand and surfaces were washed with little more than water, as the current spectrum of innovative products was not available.
  1. Carpets

    • Cleaning and maintaining carpets in the 21st century relies upon equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor machines, steamers and spot removers. Many different vacuums are on the market now that advertise deep cleaning into the carpet, and some come with special attachments that pick up pet hair for people who have pets in the home. Others are designed specially to be lightweight and store easily.

21st century cleaning methods for carpets also include a number of products that remove stains, keep carpets looking new and treat carpets to prevent staining or wear. You can buy powder cleansers that are sprinkled onto the carpet, left on for ten minutes or so and then are vacuumed up. They are advertised as freshening the smell of the carpet as well as releasing dirt particles from the fibers of the carpet.

    Floors

    • Aside from the carpet in a home there are a number of different floorings you may find in areas such as the hallways, kitchen or bathrooms. Linoleums, hardwood floors, pergo floors and even bamboo floors are all on the market in the 21st century. Floors made with natural materials such as wood or bamboo are treated, and they are required to be cleaned with special products that help protect and treat the wood each time you clean them. These products are typically oil-based and will leave a protecting coating on the floors after they have cleaned the surface. Linoleum is cleaned in the 21st century by using a number of soap-based cleansers that remove tough dirt and grime.

    Windows

    • In the 21st century, window cleaning is far easier than it was years ago. A number of products promote cleaning glass windows (as well as mirrors in the home) without leaving streaks on the window once the liquid has dried. These sprays -- along with a soft, dry cloth -- can be used on the inside of the windows in the home as well as on the outside. Many of them will also cause water to bead up on the window instead of displacing all over the window, which can also keep your windows cleaner longer.

    Countertops and Surfaces

    • 21st century cleaning products that are designed to clean a variety of countertops and surfaces contain antibacterial qualities to keep bacteria and germs off of surfaces and keep your family healthy. These cleansers come in the form of wipes, sprays and even abrasives that are designed to clean grime and dirt off the surface, but will not harm its quality. There are now a number of organic surface cleansers that are on the market which are chemical-free and use plant-based oils to clean.
