The Shark must be charged for a minimum of 20 hours before you use it for the first time. Failure to allow the sweeper to fully charge can lead to improper operation. Turn the sweeper "Off." Plug the charger plug into the charging hole on the back of the sweeper. Plug the charging adapter into a 120 volt electrical outlet. The charging light indicator on the top of the sweeper will illuminate to indicate the sweeper is properly charging.
The sweeper rollers will not rotate if the dust cup if full. Use your foot and press the dust release button on the left side of the sweeper, making sure not to hit the "On" button. Lift the handle out of the sweeper's base -- the lower handle is attached to the dust cup container. Hold the dust cup container over a trash bin and press the dust cup empty button, which is on the lower handle. Gently tap the back of the container. Position the dust cup container over the base and push down. Firmly press the container until it snaps into place.
The brush rollers will not turn if they are jammed. Make sure the sweeper is off and turn the unit over. Thoroughly check the roller and brushes for any obstructing material, string or large pieces of debris. Use a pair of household scissors to cut any tangled string or carpet fibers free of the roller. Remove the brush cover on the front of the sweeper and remove any lint, hair, fiber and debris around the rotating brush.
If you have assessed your sweeper and the unit's rollers are still not rotating, contact the Shark customer service department for repair or possibly a replacement model. Do not try to take apart your Shark Rechargeable Sweeper; doing this will void the one-year warrant.
