How to Change a Belt on a Hoover 20.0 Vacuum

The Hoover 20.0 vacuum is also known as the Guardsman upright bagless vacuum cleaner. The unit includes a steel-lined fan chamber for heavy duty use and offers a 6-amp motor, 12-inch cleaning path, easy-to-empty dirt cup, steel brush roll, four height positions, three different handle positions, 50-foot-long cord and an overall weight of 20 lbs. While the vacuum cleaner is designed to be sturdy and work well under most circumstances, if it stops moving or suctioning well, the belt may be damaged or broken. Replacing the belt may be necessary.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off and disconnect the Hoover vacuum cleaner from power. Wait a few minutes to allow the device to cool.

    • 2

Lower the handle and turn the vacuum cleaner over. Release the latches on each side of the bottom plate and remove the plate from the unit.

    • 3

Lift up on the agitator to remove and release the old belt from the pulley system. Discard the old belt.

    • 4

Set the new belt into the agitator grove and line up the end of the agitator with the slot in the wall of the vacuum base. Push the other end of the agitator into the vacuum.

    • 5

Pull the belt over the pulley, in line with the projections on the cleaner bottom. Set the bottom plate back into position by inserting the knobs on the plate front into the wire holders on the vacuum.

    • 6

Push the bottom plate into position. The latches should push back. Restore power to the vacuum.
